Alexander Florensky was born in Leningrad in 1960. He graduated from the Mukhina School of Industrial Design in 1982 and was one of the founders of the MITKI group of artists. He has been a member of the Union of Artists of Russia since 1988. He set up the MITKILIBRIS publishing house in 1994. Fr om 1997 to 2005 he was one of the founders and a curator of the MITKI-VKHUTEMAS art centre. In 2004, together with the artist Ivan Sotnikov, he set up the PAINTING AND DRAWING SOCIETY. Since 2006 he has headed the Department of Contemporary Art at the TSARSKOSELSKY COLLECTION State Museum. Works by Alexander Florensky are to be found in the collections of the Russian Museum and the Hermitage (St Petersburg), KIASMA and CITY ART MUSEUM (Helsinki), and the Victoria and Albert Museum (London). Lives and works in St.Petersburg and Tbilisi.
